Analysis Mentor text J

I watched the video "Singing Through Prison Walls' ' for my mentor text. In the video a young singer named Niama Shalhoub goes into prisons with incarcerated women and performs her inspiring songs for them. The purpose of her music is to empower and keep the women going through their hard time in jail. She is currently recording her new album in the jail that she performs at. In the video it talks about the impacts of her music and the goals she has for it. Shalhoub talks about the experiences for the inmates. She mentions that the inmates have told her that her music has helped them get through their day and make it better, makes them want to be better, and has helped them with missing their kids. Overall her goal for her music is to raise money to help incarnated women. Shalhoub noticed that it was very hard for women to go out from prison and it was hard for them to get food stamps, jobs, and housing. She wanted to give the money she made with her album to rehabilitating programs for those women she sings to. Personally while watching this film I thought it was inspiring and made me think about giving second chances. Once in prison and learning about their mistakes the women are more educated and it makes a better case for a second chance.
