When reading “In the shadow of a young girl in flowers” it took me a few minutes into reading to figure out the message of the text. The text has a clear message of reversed gender roles between the dad and daughter. Although the girl resented her dad for being more feminine she understood later in life why he was and kind of owed her dad for helping her turn out to be the person she is today. When reading I thought about the coincidence it was that the father and the daughter switched gender roles and how it almost worked out perfectly for their family.
