When reading, “When you're trans, living at home with your parents can be complicated”, I felt very educated and sympathetic towards the trans community. Since I am not trans and I don't believe I actually know anyone who is, a lot of the stories and information came as a shock to me. What really stood out to me the most was the parents' situation. I am lucky enough to come from a family who supports me in what I do and can not imagine parents turning their back on their child just because they are seen in society as “different.” Reading the experiences some trans kids went through with their parents made me sad hearing about it. A quote that struck me was, “If your parents don’t understand your gender or sexuality, you get on a bus to the city, find your people, and become yourself without the shackles of your parents’ judgment. Or maybe your parents kicked you out, and the pilgrimage isn’t exactly a choice.” It's amazing how there is a whole community of people going through the emotions and experiences as that one person looking for help. Also on the education part I learned more the statistics of the trans population and the amount it costs for a top surgery and bottom surgery. The stat that shocked me the most is that 40% of homeless youths are trans and that a trans male bottom surgery is 20,000 dollars.
